What We're Framing Now: Mike

What do Katy Perry, black lipstick and shadowbox framing have in common? When you bring our talented Lincoln Park framing consultant Mike into the mix, it’s the recipe for one kiss-worthy custom framing project.

What piece did you frame?

I framed a lipstick tube I won in a sweepstakes that was signed by Katy Perry. I have had it sitting in a drawer while I figured out what to do with it, as I knew it needed to be something cool and interesting.

Why is it meaningful to you?

I am a huge fan of Katy Perry so having something signed by her is obviously a big deal to me! Like, she held that!

Why did you choose the framing combination you did?

I knew this piece needed something kind of upscale and interesting, as well as three dimensional, which is why I ended up stacking two different frames to create the shadow box. The lipstick itself doesn't have much to it design-wise, so I wanted to see what I could do just using black and white and making it feel a bit graphic.

What's your favorite part about how it turned out?

I think the set backs are my favorite - which is what we did to have the mat and piece sit towards the back of the frame. It's the first time I've done anything like that and it made it very unique. If you look closely you can see black kiss marks around the piece which I made myself, that also made it feel special and personal!

Where will you display it?

Oh, it's already proudly hung in my room next to all my other Katy Perry memorabilia. There’s nowhere else it could go!
