What We're Framing Now: Natalia

It’s no secret that our talented staff is chock full of artists, and the welcoming face you see at our Lincoln Park location, Natalia, is no exception. This month, Natalia walks us through the process of framing one of her original paintings.

What piece did you frame?

I was so excited to frame my original painting - “Afro Catrina.”

Why is it meaningful to you?

This piece is really special to me as shows representation of the Afro Mexican community. And a special thing I did was to use dried flowers to make the art really pop and sealed them with an acrylic resin.

Why did you choose the framing combination you did?

How could I not choose this framing combination when it practically looks like the frames were made just for my piece? The inner glossy black marble frame highlighted the texture and colors of the hair, while the outer ornate lilac and gold frame matched the background of the painting perfectly. It’s really special as an artist when you find those perfect framing combinations that truly enhance the art.

What's your favorite part about how it turned out?

Somehow the frames beautifully accented my work without overshadowing the piece. When that happens, it’s magical!

Where will you display it?

It’s currently being displayed in my home, but I plan to have a solo show very soon and display it in a gallery for all to see.
