All You Need Is Love...And Framing

Valentine’s Day gives us the perfect opportunity to practice what we preach when we say frame what you love and love what you frame. One of the great joys of custom framing for five decades is getting to share in the celebration of so many beloved customer pieces - from family photos to fine art to treasured heirlooms.

And while there is no wrong way to frame what you love, there are definitely some framing choices that lean into this holiday of love. We recently framed an iconic Beatles phrase in an homage to everyone’s favorite red and sparkly winter holiday.

The artwork was fun, but simple - script-y letters in reds and pinks printed on high-quality paper utilizing our digital printing services. For frame choices, we started by pulling the obvious with lots of reds and pinks, but leaving space to consider whites, metallics and frames from the simple to the simply extraordinary.

But something about this inlaid marquetry frame from Italy with tiny hearts on it captured our own heart. It felt sweet and sophisticated, without being too cutesy. Because the art was simple and the heart frame was slim, we also felt that doubling up and stacking the frames would be a special combination.

The wavy textures on the inside frame pays tribute to the Spanish architect, Gaudi, whose love of natural forms inspired so many interesting buildings across Barcelona. It was also a lovely nod to the waviness of the text on the art and added a layer of visual interest.

Although very different frames, they fit perfectly together as a pair, essentially creating a whole new frame.

Ta-da! From our minds to a truly custom piece that was seamless to print and frame and reminds us of the importance of love, not just on February 14, but on all days.
