Finding Color In 2020: Pantone's Color Of The Year

Though 2020 is certainly off to a strange start, we think it’s more important than ever to focus on moments of color in a particularly gray world right now. Back in January, the Pantone Color Institute announced its 2020 color of the year would be Classic Blue, reminiscent of the sky at dusk. This color, they said, would inspire us to imagine what’s next. What will the future bring as we move into the evening hours? A question that seems all the more prescient today.

Fun fact: the first official Pantone Color Of The Year was announced in 1999 and it was Cerulean Blue. At the time, headed into Y2K, there was much uncertainty about if the world was bound to fall apart entering a new century. Recognizing similar feelings of instability today (even pre-global pandemic) the institute wanted to select a color for 2020 that offered the reassurance, confidence and connection that people may be searching for in an uncertain world.

So, in an effort to spur those feelings of confidence and connection, we’re taking a few moments today to celebrate some of our favorite framing projects that have helped color the world that reassuring shade of blue.

Our Ziggy Stardust Queen has provided plenty of inspiration in the past, but we especially love that this framing combination plays on the pops of blue in the art. Stacking two different frames, and in particular the interior blue Baroque-style frame, is significant but still subtle and helps pull out all the colors in the art.

With a much more mid-century framing approach, this piece also uses the two-frame technique but with a bolder punch of blue. The rounded profile, even on a square frame, helps soften the overall feel of the piece and adds visual interest.

Last but not least, this frame in particular was inspired by the beauty of precious stones. It’s the perfect way to explore texture with a hint of warmth and sparkle. This look works particularly well with bohemian decor and global style and instantly can make a space feel both comfortable and alive.

Wherever you are, hopefully this brief respite helped put a little color in your day. Have a spot in your home calling for a pop of blue (or any other color of the rainbow)? Drop us a line at sales@artistsframe.com for a virtual framing appointment and we’ll help get some color into your world.
