In 1978, Jay Goltz started Artists Frame Service on Clybourn Ave, then an abandoned factory district. He was determined to raise the bar for professional framing with more artful design, better choices, and faster service. The company grew very quickly and continued to expand, soon becoming the largest custom frame shop in the country. In the early 90s, Jay began developing relationships with manufacturers in Italy and Spain, whose exquisite products were not available in the American market. Today, many of our frames are exclusive to Artists Frame Service.
Then there are the people, many of whom have been with the company for over 20 years. With art and design backgrounds, they are dedicated to taking great care of the customer and the art.
With the addition of Jayson Home and Chicago Art Source Gallery, Jay has been credited with starting what is now a vibrant shopping district. The company has been named Best Frame Store by Chicago Magazine and profiled in Forbes, the Chicago Tribune, Crain’s Chicago Business, and Inc. Magazine.
Jay shares his entrepreneurial experiences through his book, The Street Smart Entrepreneur, speaking engagements, and his popular blog in The New York Times Small Business section.
